Dr Bethany Stroyde

Clinical Psychologist & Yoga Teacher

Who are your ideal clients?

Beth sees clients for 1:1 therapy (short, medium and long-term) online.

Adults of any age or gender who are struggling with their psychological wellbeing and find that this gets in the way of them doing the things that are important to them in life.

Whether struggling with depression, anxiety, overwhelming stress, or trauma, or perhaps unhelpful repeated patterns of behaviour or relationship patterns.

I also work with people who are struggling with chronic pain conditions, such as fibromyalgia, where their emotional wellbeing is affected. Sometimes these people have also experienced trauma earlier in their lives.

The ideal client would be open to exploring, or already have some interest in spirituality.

What do you like about being a psychologist?

I deeply value the authentic connections I experience with fellow human beings, hearing their unique story, being able to witness people grow on their journey and beginning to tap into their own wisdom. It’s a real privilege to connect with someone in this way and to hear people become more compassionate towards themselves. I learn a great deal too from my clients, about myself and about humanity generally. I also really enjoy learning about the latest research findings and clinical practices in psychology, particularly where understanding and working with the mind-body connection are concerned. Being a psychologist also allows me to work in line with my own values and the opportunity to be creative in how I work, such as by incorporating yoga practices.

How do you work?

The types of therapy I use seek to make sense of the difficulties somebody is coming to therapy with and helps them to begin to find a way to create the changes they are looking for, to help them to feel they have more choice and power in how they live their lives, and in a way that helps them to connect to the things that make life meaningful and even joyful to them. The aim is that they will have more energy and attention to give to these things, such as their relationships or hobbies.

I tend to work from an integrated mind-body perspective and in particular I use CFT, ACT, mindfulness, parts work, therapeutic yoga, EMDR, somatic psychology and polyvagal theory, as well as drawing on emotion-focused therapy (EFT), CBT, and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

More about beth

Outside of work, I enjoy all kinds of live music, dancing (throwing my own shapes, or attempting to learn swing and salsa!), yoga of course, reading, trying (and eating!) new recipes, exploring new places and meeting new people, and going on countryside walks and bike rides. I’m also interested in environmental issues, social justice, and animal welfare.
